About Me

I'm a huge AMC geek and fellow AMO member

My dad was always a Rambler guy, so, so was I. In 1963 it got even better when he went to work for American Motors as Fleet Manager at the National Parts Distribution Center on the south side of Milwaukee.

As kids we remember Ramblers. They were the cars that brought myself and two sisters home from the hospital when we were born. They were the cars that took us to and from school, and church. They were the cars that took us on family vacations to the New York World's Fair, the Expo in Montreal, Canada, Niagra Falls, Washington D.C., South Dakota, and Yosemite National Park.

We remember the AMC's. My first car was a 1973 Gremlin which I passed on to my one of my sisters who later traded it for an AMC Spirit. My other sister also owned an AMC Spirit.

I was all in for the haul. After my Gremlin came a '75 Pacer. Great trips with the boys in that. Good tailgating car too. Next was a '79 Spirit with the big six. It scooted. Following that was a 1980 Spirit AMX with the V8. Wish I still had that one. The guy I sold it to was going to plot a 401 in it. I had a 1970 AMX as a project car for a while which showed me I knew nothing about looking at a classic car. It turned out to be a $1,500 lesson. I saw it a couple years back on a trailer in Kenosha. After that, there was an Eagle SX4 and then a bunch of Jeeps.

Dad's job was to make sure all the parts got to the distribution centers all over the country and there were lots of them. Because I had an "in", I also got a personal tour of the Kenosha assembly operations. I also got lots of trips to Road America to see Mark Donahue race in the Trans Am series. I even got to go in one of the cars on the track! I love Road America. I went to the proving grounds a bunch of times and saw cars a couple of years down the line.

My dad brought home all kinds of stuff, mostly brochures and promo model cars. Most of the cars he got for free but every once in a while he had to pay 2 bucks for one. 2 bucks:) He also brought the real deal home. The car I remember most was a '72 Javelin/AMX which I got to play with for almost a week. What fun. I'm still a car geek and blog about promo models and classics with a buddy of mine. Most of my stuff is about AMC. Go check it out. So collecting and restoring cars was a bust for me. Now I'm into motorcycles which I find a lot easier to work on along with radio controlled planes.

But now it's time to pass a lot of my collection to the next care taker, an AMO member like me. I didn't even list my items in eBay because I wanted them to go to a good home.
